Mandurah’s aquatic wonderland is perfect for stand up paddle boarding (SUP). If you’re a beginner, there’s plenty of sheltered waters to give paddling a go. Once you get over the wobbles, you can choose a trail and explore to your heart’s content. Or, until your core gets sore! Glide past multi-million dollar mansions, marvel at the impressive birdlife and if you’re lucky, our resident dolphins might join you for the ride!

Don’t have your own equipment? No worries! There’s plenty of places you can hire a SUP.

SEE

The ultimate spot for social gatherings

With Mandurah’s dolphins of course! And it’s the best time of the year for it too. Set sail on a dolphin cruise where you’re likely to spot this playful bunch frolicking through the waterways. You might even catch one surfing by the boat.

Keen to go it alone? Jump on a waterbike, kayak or canoe to really get up close and personal with these friendly curious creatures. You just never know when they’ll pop up beside you!

The ultimate destination for discovery

For a truly unique experience, head to Lake Clifton in Yalgorup National Park. It’s here among the shallows you’ll find one of the world’s largest thrombolite reefs. Extremely rare on Earth, these incredible living rocks are around 2,000 years old. Scientists believe these micro-organisms were among the first life forms.

You can view this phenomena via the purpose built observation boardwalk, but the best way to experience the thrombolites and learn about their significance is on a guided tour.

And Mandurah certainly fits the brief for a romantic weekend or cheeky midweek getaway.

Only an hour’s drive south of Perth, Mandurah is where the Darling Ranges disappear into the Indian Ocean. Where serene rivers flow through amazing bush landscapes, and where pristine beaches run for kilometres on end, sometimes without a soul in sight.

Whether your idea of romance is a laidback retreat relaxing on the water, getting amongst nature, immersing yourself in delectable foodie delights or a heart-pounding adventure, we’ve curated our top romantic picks for things to do in Mandurah, which should definitely score you some brownie points.

DOLPHIN ENCOUNTERS

There’s no better time than now to go dolphin spotting. With the breeding season well underway, this is when dolphins are at their most playful. The best vantage point to see these loveable creatures is without a doubt on the water. And there’s no shortage of ways to do it.

Take a scenic cruise or become your own skipper and hire a boat – no skippers ticket or boat licence required. If you want to get active, grab yourselves a stand up paddleboard from Mandurah Boat Hire or Star Surf & Skate and float your way along the waters to get up close and personal, jump on a tandem kayak and test your coordination.

Explore nature’s wonderland

This time of year is perfect for getting back to nature, and Mandurah has so much on display. From hiking and kayaking, sailing to stargazing – choose your preferred method and let the explorations begin!

There’s nothing like a dose of fresh air and if you both enjoy hiking, there are trails aplenty for you to discover. Spot remarkable wildlife that exists in tucked away places across Mandurah’s diverse parks and wetlands. Take a nature walk through the wilderness and you won’t be disappointed.

If you’ve never visited the Lake Clifton thrombolites in Yalgorup National Park, then this is a must-see. These rock-like formations date back 2,000 years and are the largest cluster of thrombolites you’ll find in the southern hemisphere. Scientists believe they are one of the first life forms on earth (way before dinosaurs were ever around!). Stroll along the jetty for some insta-worthy shots, or gain some insider knowledge on a guided tour with Salt and Bush Eco Tours.
