Native Dinner Series “DJERAN: Season of the Adulthood”

Native Dinner Series Flics Kitchen Mandurah

Aboriginal cultural evening hosted by Elisha Jacobs. 5 course degustation with native ingredients.

Each dinner in this series will be based on the Noongar people’s 6 seasons the next one being “DJERAN: Season of the Adulthood”. Djeran sees a break in the really hot weather. A key indicator of the change of seaon is the cool nights that bring a dewy presence in the early mornings. The onset of cool and rainy days meant that traditional mia mias (houses or shelters) were repaired and updated to make sure they were waterproofed and facing the right direction in readiness for the deep wintery months to come.

The winds also change with light breezes swinging from southerly directions. Many flying ants can be seen cruising the light winds.

Djeran is a time of red flowers, especially from the red flowering gum (Corymbiaficifolia), as well as the smaller and more petite flowers of the summer flame (Beaufortia aestiva).

A truly special evening connecting us to the history of our land and region and a journey into the ancient traditions of the Noongar people.
