Geocaching 101 – Dwellingup Treasure Hunt

Ready for an outdoor adventure? Grab your phone, follow the clues and explore Dwellingup on a self-guided geocaching treasure hunt.

Starting from the Dwellingup Trails and Visitor Centre, you’ll learn the basics of geocaching before setting off along a suggested route to find hidden caches around town. Discover new places, uncover the clue at each location and record your answers on your map.

Once you’ve completed the treasure hunt, return your map to the Visitor Centre and collect your prize.

How It Works

  • Meet at the Dwellingup Trails and Visitor Centre at 10:30am
  • Check in and learn how to use the Geocaching App
  • Follow the suggested route to find the caches
  • Find and record the clue at each location
  • Return your completed map to the Visitor Centre
  • Collect your prize

Who Is It For?

Suitable for ages 6+, the treasure hunt can be completed individually, with family and friends, or as part of a group.

Children under 18 must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult at all times.

This is a self-guided activity, and Shire staff will not provide supervision along the route. The route includes road crossings, bushland and some uneven surfaces.

Each group will need access to at least one smartphone or smart device with:

  • The Geocaching App downloaded
  • GPS/location services enabled

Instructions for downloading and setting up the app will be emailed to the main contact before the event.

What to Bring

  • Fully charged smartphone or smart device
  • Water
  • Comfortable, enclosed walking shoes
  • Hat and sun-safe clothing
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellent, if needed
  • Portable phone charger, if available

Charging stations are also available at the Dwellingup Trails and Visitor Centre.

Before You Come

This is an outdoor walking activity and the route may include road crossings, sealed paths, grass, dirt tracks, bushland and uneven surfaces. Please wear suitable footwear and consider whether the walking distance and conditions are appropriate for you and your group.
